Local Service Districts and Unincorporated Areas - Services Questionnaire

Context

Newfoundland and Labrador is one of only two jurisdictions in Canada without any form of regional government.  Currently, formal service sharing between communities is limited and inconsistent.

In November 2020, the Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs established a Joint Working Group on Regionalization with representatives from the department, Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador and the Professional Municipal Administrators of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The objectives of the working group are to:

  • Establish a baseline for the municipal sector today based on primary/secondary research;
  • Review relevant research literature for potential models of regionalization;
  • Determine the most relevant good practices in regionalization;
  • Engage joint councils, local service districts and other groups of communities; and
  • Prepare a report with recommendations informed by research results.

The Joint Working Group on Regionalization is seeking input from residents of Local Service Districts and Unincorporated Areas to help inform planning for regionalization as a means to provide more efficient and effective services for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Get Involved

Local service district committees, residents of local service districts and residents of unincorporated areas have an opportunity to take part in this engagement process by submitting your views online or by providing a written submission to the working group. We would like to hear from people who live, own property, or conduct business in a local service district or unincorporated community. When answering this questionnaire, please do so from the perspective of your interest in a local service district or unincorporated community.

Thank you in advance for your participation.
