Cultural Action Plan Consultations

The Provincial Government wishes to thank all stakeholders who participated in the Cultural Action Plan consultation process. Public consultations were held across the province between April 24 and May 29, 2018 and included a virtual session for those who could not attend one of the face to face sessions.

Further consultation was conducted with the Premier’s Youth Council, indigenous governments/communities, Francophone community, and other related community organizations.

Overview

In March 2006, the government released Creative Newfoundland and Labrador: The Blueprint for Development and Investment in Culture. This was developed with the support of the culture community and was the guiding document for the Arts and Heritage Division for more than a decade. A copy of the 2006 plan can be viewed here.

The Way Forward: Realizing our Potential, committed government to “Revitalize the Approach to Supporting Culture. It states that, “Government will engage arts, heritage and tourism stakeholders to launch a renewed plan for culture, including: examining accomplishments and gaps, cultural policy and programs, export development to enhance access to markets and develop a better understanding of the impact of the digital transformation on culture to address challenges and take advantage of new opportunities. By January 31, 2019, our Government will release a new Cultural Plan to support arts and heritage in the province.”

The objective of these consultations is to engage key culture stakeholders to discuss government’s support for the cultural sector over the next five years.
